B4 · Background

How does a relationship grow?

Relationships move through Discover, Connect, First engagement, Deepen, Opportunity, and Sustain. They do not always move in a straight line.

The four stages keep the next invitation proportional: an initial conversation, an invitation into the school community, hosting a group, then sustained engagement. Stage 4 has its own internal progression but counts as one stage.

Real example

Canyon Corner Café began with a résumé-review table at school. Hosting a group workplace visit is the sensible next invitation—not an internship.

Key takeaway: Your job is to make the next stage feel natural and manageable.
